In the past few months, the world has experienced a rapid shift towards digitalizing our everyday activities – businesses, educational institutes, individuals - they all have shifted their daily routines online.
We went from in-person meetings to social distancing, with that, helping to fight the pandemic and keeping everyone safe.
However, what is the impact of moving everything online?
Since the beginning of cloud computing, everything we do online goes through and stays in data centres. These data centres provide basic Internet services and generally need to have complete hardware and services such as high-speed Internet access bandwidth, high-performance servers, and a reliable computer room environment. In the last few months the data centre industry has experienced spikes in online usage, and the demand for energy and high performance in data centres rapidly increased, and so did the energy bill.
Several research studies indicate that the Data Centre industry has the same environmental (co2) impact as the aviation and shipping industry combined. It is not always the technology that consumes all of the power, up to 30-40% of the energy bills go to the cooling of the equipment.
One of the biggest issues faced by Data Centres is their cooling. As power consumption and the demand for power is rising, the more heat is being generated by the servers, ultimately slowing them down, therefore, cooling is becoming a priority.
For example, in recent months, Netflix, the online streaming platform saw an unprecedented high demand of computing power resulting in having to reduce streaming qualities in Europe for over one month, due to capacity issues.
Incooling creates next-generation phase change cooling systems dedicated to increasing the performance and efficiency of the Data Centre Industry. Incooling utilizes the unique properties of phase change cooling to provide data centres with a stable and uninterrupted performance by providing the optimal thermal environment allowing to unleash the full potential of the servers. Unlike the traditional cooling systems, it directly removes the heat from the heat source allowing for up to 50% more efficient removal of excess heat.
The market has been too focused on next-generation technologies, often leaving electronics cooling as a second priority; nevertheless, a movement has started given the current urgency towards climate action. Energy efficiency has become a key point in this industry.
Incooling is embracing the mission - Cooling down the planet one server at a time.
